{ Thirsty Thursday } Strawberry Basil Vodka Spritzer

Strawberry Basil Vodka Spritzer- Thirsty Thursday-allaboutthedetails-4This summer I decided to kick my ‘burbs level up a few notches by planting my very own herb and vegetable garden. I know, I know – house wife alert. Dorky as it sounds it has been really, really fun to watch something that you have spent a part of your day nurturing flourish- kind of like my dogs except these don’t poop on the floor and they thank you for your care by giving produce.

With the constant rain and never ending sun, my Basil plants have become a bit out of control… which lead my cocktail imagination down a vodka filled yellow brick road of possibilities…. if I have made cocktails from Mint, and Thyme, why couldn’t I pull off a Basil masterpiece?

And that is just what I did.

These Strawberry Basil Spritzers are the perfect summer cocktail. I really love how the flavors give off a light infusion rather than the sometimes overwhelmingness that simple syrups tend to do to a good Vodka.

4 Strawberries

6-8 Medium Basil Leaves – chopped + More for garnish

1/2 of the Juice of a Lime

1 Teaspoon of Sugar + More for Rim

2 Shots of Premium Vodka

Soda Water

Cup of Ice

Place the Strawberries and the chopped basil into the shaker and muddle. Add sugar and lime juice to the shaker and muddle again. Add a cup of ice and Vodka to the shaker and shake for about 30 seconds.

Grab a 1/4 of a lime and rub the lip of your glass, then dip in a plate of sugar. Add ice to the cup,  I used regular cubes but it would be really fun to used crushed ice to give it more of a slushy constancy. Using a strainer pour the contents of the shaker over the ice and top off with Soda Water.
